News Flash: I am a Nerd
twitch sigil

I am nerdier than 89% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

What’s my current nerd obsession you (fear to) ask? Using the vast powers granted to me by HTML 4 and Unicode to type correct punctuation and symbols (like that ° in my last entry). For instance, my current darling is the HTML entity for the em dash. Just by typing — where I would usually use a double-dash—like right here—I can wield with ease the awesome power that Gutenberg first unleashed upon the world with large, clunky, metal blocks.

Personally, I don't know how anyone ever lived without the emdash.

my sister can not live with out mdash.

I had only 37 but as I am a geek it doesn't bother me that much.

I have the sudden urge to give you a hug.

I know, I know... the raw nerdiness of digital typography is intoxicating. ;-)

The thing I like about Linux is that, with a standard keyboard, I can type "(special key)-shift-o /" to make a Ø, and all sorts of neat things like ¥, £, æ, and ß. I've set the (special key) to the windows key, so it's finally useful. It's a nice alterative to a character-picker.

*goes to the airport*
*charters a flight*
*steps up to your door*
*rings the bell*
*gives you another hug*
*flies home again*

The good thing is that from all of those above I hardly ever need any except of "ß" and I have that on my keyboard :D

Haha. :)

I'd be lost using a non-US layout keyboard. It's useful for those rare times when I need to reference someone with a Swedish name, say, or when typing en fraçais.

Ah, oui... always be prepared as Ølaf Hammarskjöld used to say...
